The various options for handicaps, penalties, splits, etc… used to be keywords that people needed to memorize and know in order to use them. Now most have been changed into checkboxes to simplify the configuration of the results.
Handicaps, penalties, and splits are the most common options and are always present.
Handicaps shows age handicaps per flight based on the average age of the entry. The age and handicap show up in an “Adjustments” column.
Penalties shows penalties that the referees enter. The penalties show up in the “Adjustments” column with other adjustments like the handicaps.
When there are adjustments that appear in the results for penalties or handicaps, the finish times appear as both a raw time without adjustments in a Raw column, and the adjusted time appears in Adjusted column.
Splits shows split times or split distances depending on how the racing is measured.
Other options for Distance racing, Age Categories, Gold Times, and other options are not as common, so to save space and keep the view of the flights simple, they are only shown if the “Advanced” checkbox is clicked.
Distance changes the results to show the distance fields rather than the time fields. There is a distance column. If Splits is also turned on, then distance splits are shown in the results. The referee app also changes to show the appropriate distance fields instead of the time fields.
Age Categories shows the Age column in the results. It does not handicap the results like the Handicaps flag. USRowing primarily uses age categories rather than handicapping whenever possible to avoid the cont
Gold Times show the percentage off of the world best times. The US national team adds this data to their results to give perspective on how close athletes are to winning medals. At selection events 90% or more is good and mid-90% range is very promising. In order for Gold Times to work, you must select the proper set of records on the “Records” tab, and then select the correct record for each event in the Registration tab.
There are a bunch of keywords that have not be translated into checkboxes yet. To use the keywords, just put them in the keywords field separated by commas. Keywords are not case sensitive.
“Split1“, “Split2“, “Split3” can turn on individual splits rather than “Splits” which turns on all three.
“Grouping” turns on results grouping in the results and shows the “Group” field in each entry. This is getting popular enough that it will probably change into a checkbox.
“HOSR” shows the split names specific to the Head of the Schuylkill (St. Joe’s, Grandstands, and Angels).
“RCA” turns on Rowing Canada Aviron’s masters handicapping system which is different from USRowing and ARA. Note:If RCA is turned on, “Handicaps” should also be turned on.
There are some other legacy items too that we can describe if we need them in the future.
